A Jersey author is hoping to spread messages of environmental protection and marine wildlife awareness in her new mermaid fantasy book.
Every Friday, Express presents a selection of online and offline exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic and creative content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture throughout the pandemic.

Hannah Reed, who was born in Jersey but now lives in Canada, is next week releasing the second book in her Pearl Wielder Triology, Essentia.
It follows on from Tenebrasco, which was released last summer, and continues the tale of those aiming to bring peace back to the world after the mer and legged Peace Treaty is sabotaged.

Aimed at young adults, the series incorporates nods to protecting marine wildlife and safeguarding natural spaces – as well as Jersey’s Devil’s Hole.
“Jersey is such a special place and it means so much to me. Most of my non-Jersey readers are from the United States, so for the sequel, Essentia, I really wanted to show them a little slice of Jersey as the readers re-immersed themselves in the pearl wielders’ world,” Hannah said.

A local gallery has been transformed with astroturf, deckchairs, beach balls, cricket bats and croquet mallets in a unique celebration of the most globally famous British artists of the 20th and 21st century.
Among the names on display at Private and Public's Best of British are LS Lowry, Sir Claude Francis Barry, Lucien Freud, David Hockney, Grayson Perry, Tracey Emin and Banksy.
They'll be featured alongside some local talent - including Gallery Director Chris Clifford's own art teacher from Victoria College, Robert Tilling.

Since early on during the pandemic, the Arts Centre has been sharing weekly audio monologues to keep islanders' ears entertained without access to theatres.
This week, they shared the final instalment: 'Loose Ends' written by Jason Kenyon and performed by Kaye Nicholson-Horn and Fi Marchant.

Amid continuing uncertainty due to the pandemic, Jersey Opera House recently decided it would have to remain closed until spring 2021.
In the meantime, however, the theatre team has generously been taking the time to share opportunities for islanders to get their theatre fix online on their Facebook page.
Featured this week have been videos of archived productions from the hit-making Southwark Playhouse, including Rock Musical 'Wasted'.
The Metropolitan Opera's nightly streams have also been highlighted. Tonight, it's offering Bizet's 'Les Pêcheurs de Perles'.
And there's also the opportunity to watch a star-crossed spin-off: Timpson the Musical follows the warring Montashoe and Keypulet families, and two young investors from either household on their bid to follow their dreams all the way to the 50th annual 'Invention Convention'.
