Car ‘narrowly missed’ teen on zebra crossing

A young teenager was left “shaken up” after a driver reportedly narrowly missed her and blamed her for nearly getting herself killed as she used a zebra crossing, Police have said in an appeal for more information.

Officers said the alleged dangerous driving happened around 15:00 on Tuesday (4 January) at the pedestrian crossing outside the bookmakers at Five Oaks.

“A car heading towards the roundabout stopped to let her cross but another car, dark in colour and heading in the opposite direction, drove at speed across the crossing, narrowly missing the young girl as she attempted to cross the road,” the Force explained.

“This car then stopped a short distance down the road and the male driver shouted out of his window at the young girl, blaming her for nearly getting herself killed. This frightened the girl and the whole experience has left her feeling quite shaken up.

“The driver is described as having dark hair.”

Officers are now looking to speak to anyone who saw what happened, and particularly the driver of the other car who stopped at the crossing to let the girl cross the road.

Those with more information should call 612612 or make an anonymous report using Crimestoppers’ online form.
