Friends of cancer-hit mum prepare to ‘Fliq off’

Monday 02 December 2019

Friends of a young mum, whose life was turned upside down by a shock cancer diagnosis that left her in need of urgent treatment in the UK, are preparing to ‘Fliq off to cancer’ in a large-scale fundraising event.

Fliquet Renouf - the talented local tattoo artist behind ‘Stained Tattoo Co’ and mum to Dakota (7) – turned 27 this week in Southampton hospital after being unexpectedly diagnosed with a late stage and aggressive lymphoma after a year struggling with her health and chronic pain, and is likely to have to spend Christmas there too.

Her shock diagnosis led to a huge outpouring of support from the community, with a crowdfunding page set up by friends to support her family through the difficult period generating over £10,000 in under 24 hours.

The JustGiving page total now stands near £25,000 – but Fliquet’s friendship group aren’t stopping there.

They’ve now organised a night of live music, DJs, games, a ‘people auction’, raffle and more, which will take place at the Watersplash from 18:00 to 02:00 this Saturday.

The cheekily titled ‘Fliq off to cancer’ will also include a raffle, with prizes donated by generous businesses, brands and islanders keen to help.

"I am absolutely overwhelmed with our wonderful community who have banded together and not only generously donated to our Just Giving page, but to our “Fliq Off To Cancer” Fundraiser’ on the 7th December at the Watersplash.

“I know the team have been working endlessly to turn around an amazing raffle prize set up, the list can always be added to, so if anyone else wants to get involved - we’d welcome more!” Serena Fan, Fliquet’s friend of five years and fundraising co-organiser, commented.

“A huge thank you to all the local businesses, who have given us some ‘absolutely sickening’ prizes. So many local business owners have connected with Fliquet’s story and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported us every step of the way. We’re hoping for the event to be a roaring success and we hope that you’ll come down to support us."
