Bollywood Bytes purchase to help expand hospital

A building housing a popular Indian Restaurant at the Parade is set to be purchased by the Government for £870,000 as part of plans to expand the hospital.

Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan has signed an order approving the purchase of 2 Edward Place, where Bollywood Bytes is based.

Once acquired, all the buildings between the Hospital and Kensington Place will be in public ownership.

2 Edward Place was last sold for £30,000 in 1973. It was acquired by Eunice Jane Bailhache, who then gifted rights to the John Le Seelleur Trust, which was set up in 1966 following the death of well-known building contractor Harold Earnest Le Seelleur. The property remains with the trust.

In 2002, 3 Edward Place was purchased by the Government for £292,500.

The former Autism Jersey shop at 4 Edward Place was bought for £915,000 at the end of last year.

St Elmo – the building at the corner between Edward Place and Kensington Place – was acquired by the States of Jersey in the 1980s to provide residential accommodation for staff.

It was later turned into a combination of offices, staff changing rooms and a doctors’ mess where staff can rest when they are not ‘on-call’ on the ground floor.

The Government has also already bought the former Stafford and Revere hotels of its arms-length social housing provider Andium Homes for £16m.

Those buildings have since been demolished to facilitate the expansion of the current facility.

In the most recent iteration of plans for the New Healthcare Facilities Programme, the site of the current hospital at Kensington Place is to be home of ambulatory services – walk-ins, outpatients, and day care.

Meanwhile, Overdale is due to hold acute services: inpatients, theatres, as well as women and children's care.

The St Saviour's site is home to mental health, rehabilitation and therapies, and the Enid Quenault centre in St Brelade is to remain the home of outpatient, child development and therapies.
