Highlands chefs to compete in inter-college culinary competition

Three of Britain’s Best Culinary Arts College will compete in Jersey this March, as part of a new competition called ‘Heat.'

The three-day event will be held at Highlands College with a team of four high-profile chefs acting as judges.

Under the guidance of Michelin Star chef Mark Jordan, and with the help of Chef Lecturer Dominic Farrell, the Jersey Team will have to cook a three-course dinner to win the Peter Querée Trophy.

They will go head-to-head with two other colleges, Westminster Kingsway College London and Bradford College in Yorkshire.

A team of four chefs, Henry Brosi, Stephen Scuffell, Andrew Bennett MBE and Paul Gayler MBE, will act as judges. Front of house students from each college will also be judged on their level of service.

The cookery showdown will take place at the Highlands Academy Restaurant and will be open to the public, as well as the Gala Celebration, which will be hosted by celebrity chef James Tanner at the Hotel de France on March 9th. Attendees will get to enjoy a three-course dinner, with the best course from each college competition menu.

The competition - organised with the help of the Jersey Craft Guild of Chefs - will also be an opportunity to promote Jersey and its produce, as the visiting student chefs will be given a tour of the Island to meet local suppliers.
