Budget difficulties see Jersey Bulls "reluctantly" pull out of cup

Monday 30 January 2023

Jersey Bulls have taken the "difficult decision" to pull out of the Combined Counties Premier League Cup due to budget difficulties intensified by cancelled games in the UK.

Unique within the Combined Counties Premier Division South, the Jersey Bulls are the only club responsible for paying for their own accommodation and flights to the mainland, as well as those of visiting teams.

This season has seen several cancelled games and matches to be rearranged, meaning that the Bulls have lost money already paid to airlines, hotels and coach companies.

Jersey Bulls CEO Ian Horswell said: “It is really unfortunate, but we need to be pragmatic with our finances. We set a travel budget at the start of the season and it is going to be exceeded. We are working hard on other ways to generate secondary match day income which are currently unavailable to us at Springfield.”

He added: “This is a difficult decision, and we truly hope that this is the last of them. On a sporting front, we had a terrific opportunity to do well in this cup competition as the favourites from our league have been knock out already.

"However, we do hope it will help the league with fixture scheduling as there isn’t the space in the calendar for us to have another four fixtures."

The Bulls are in league action again tomorrow evening against Fleet Town, which will be their first away fixture of the year.
