The Les Amis choir, made up of disabled residents of the respite and day services charity, lifted the Town Church rafters - and everyone within - on Saturday at an inspiring and upbeat carol service.
The choir sang many of our favourites carols and Christmas songs in front of a packed congregation at a service led by the Dean, the Very Rev Bob Key, and attended by the Deputy Bailiff, Tim Le Cocq, and the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst.
Despite facing many challenges in their everyday lives, the choir sang with poignancy, humour and plenty of gusto and they were given a standing ovation as the service came to an end. Residents Marguerite Le Bailly, Jack Pearl, Eddie Lemprière and Heidi Morley all sang solos, and Pierre Brochard welcomed everyone and also joined the Dean in giving the final blessing.
The choir also sang a special rendition of the Beatles' 'With a Little Help from my Friends' with Kit Ashton of the Jersey French band The Badlabecques.
Les Amis Marketing and Fundraising Manager Lauren Carré said: "It was a wonderful service and a retiring collection raised £543 for the charity. The choir had put a lot of time and effort into rehearsing for the service and it showed - they sang beautifully. Les Amis provides respite and day care services for some of the most vulnerable in our community but time and time again our residents prove that disability never means inability."
