Man ‘grabbed boy by neck’ in park

Tuesday 02 April 2019

An 11-year-old boy was left with neck injuries after an older man picked him up by his neck in a town park, Police have said.

The assault, which took place around 16:10 by the Millennium Park kiosk yesterday, involved sufficient force to lift the boy off the ground.

The man was then stopped by a female member of the public before leaving the area.

Pictured: The assault happened at Millennium Park, Police said.

He was described by Police as “Portuguese, approximately 40- 45 years old, six foot tall, normal to large build with dark hair and beard”.

They added that he was wearing glasses, a black leather jacket and baggy jeans, and had an injury on his right hand.

Police said the assault left the boy with minor pain and injuries to his neck, but that he didn't require hospital treatment.

They're now seeking more information about what happened and are urging witnesses and those who might be able to identify the man to call 612612 or leave an anonymous report on the Crimestoppers website.
