Members of the Emergency Services tonight lined up outside the hospital to applaud those fighting on the frontline of the battle against covid-19.

The 'Clap for Carers' took place at 20:00 this evening, with Police, firefighters, paramedics, and even bagpipe players descending on Gloucester Street to share their thanks to health workers in a riotous fashion.

The idea started on mainland Europe, as corona virus swept across the continent, but landed in Jersey three weeks ago.

Since then, increasing numbers of islanders have taken part, including the Chief Minister, with the Emergency Services the most notable addition this week.

Accompanied by a live video of the applause, which has been viewed nearly over 30,000 times at the time of writing, the States of Jersey Police posted on social media: "It’s time for our emergency services to say a huge thank you to the people who our really keeping Jersey safe - all of our amazing health workers."
