Wrapping paper does not belong in recycling!

Sunday 17 December 2017

Full of the Christmas spirit, and surrounded by wrapping paper left over once all gifts have been opened, you might decide to recycle it.

But the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is urging you not to, as it can't be recycled, and is asking you to throw it out with the rest of your household refuse instead.

The materials that go into making some wrapping paper make it unacceptable for recycling by the recycled paper mill used by the Department. Wrapping paper is often dyed, laminated and / or contains non-paper additives such as gold and silver coloured shapes, glitter, plastics, etc which cannot be recycled.

Greetings cards can be recycled if they are not musical. Islanders should tear off any embellishments such as glitter or ribbons.
