READER LETTER: Yes, this is about political gain

Thursday 04 March 2021

An Express reader and member of the ‘Friends of Our New Hospital’ group has responded to comments from the Deputy Chief Minister that their campaign was orchestrated for “political gain."

Stephen Regal had this to say…

Senator Farnham has publicly stated that our campaign is an orchestrated campaign to disrupt the Hospital project at all costs for political gain - he is completely correct.

I for one, am political because I am an elector and member of the Community, I am trying to avoid the loss that our politicians are causing so, if avoiding the loss is a political gain then I am, as an elector, gaining.

If avoiding building an expensive and unwarranted road destroying homes and habitat, then I, as an elector, am gaining.

If my Government avoids constructing a Hospital which fails to serve the Community that it serves, I am gaining.

If my Government provides a Health Service that addresses the needs of the Community and avoids a poor copy of the UK sections of the NHS that are sadly and obviously failing, then I am gaining.

If my Government husbands my tax payments as an elector and does not squander it on frivolous and poorly thought-out expenditure, then I am gaining.

Thus, I agree with Senator Farnham I do have a political gain in view, that for my fellow electorate, my children and grandchildren, my one worry is that Senator Farnham either cannot perceive the future or he fails to care for it.
