The temperature on Sunday surpassed Saturday’s peak though, meaning Sunday 8 July was the hottest day of the year so far. The temperature at Guernsey Airport was recorded as reaching 26.9°C.

However, a number of people said they recorded temperatures which exceeded the official Met office figures. Anecdotally, people at Grandes Rocques said it was 32°C on Sunday.
The temperature in Jersey was recorded as being hotter than Guernsey over the weekend reaching 28.3°C on Saturday afternoon and 29.6°C on Sunday. That was the warmest day in Jersey since 20 June 2017.

Regardless of the exact temperature, people across the islands enjoyed the weather with hundreds gathering at the Peninsula Hotel to watch England progress to the semi finals of the World Cup, a number of people took advantage of the need to cool down to continue their “30 bays in 30 days” swimming challenge for Les Bourgs Hospice and a couple of thousand people descended on Sark for the Sark Summer Festival which saw live music performed in the sunshine.
