Guernsey’s only faith led private school has passed its most recent inspection with an overall grade of ‘good’.

Blanchelande College is assessed by the Catholic Schools Inspectorate as well as Ofsted.

The most recent inspection was carried out by the CSI, which found that “teachers demonstrate a high degree of competence, including excellent subject knowledge”, “parents are overwhelmingly positive about the school”, and “pupil and student behaviour is excellent, with a high degree of courtesy and respect for all”.

The school’s leadership was praised with the CSI grading it as “outstanding”.

The report described the school as having “leaders with a clear vision for development”, “a strong Catholic ethos”, and a “supportive, respectful environment that promotes pupils’ emotional and mental wellbeing”.

Principal Mrs Yeoman said she and the rest of the college staff “are delighted with the results”.

“I would like to acknowledge the outstanding commitment of our staff, whose dedication and passion are evident throughout this report,” she said.

“I am also thankful to our parents for their continued support, and to our exceptional pupils, who truly embody our school’s mission of being ‘part of a family, one of a kind’ that celebrates individual learning within a collaborative and respectful environment.”

The latest inspection follows an assessment by the Independent Schools Inspectorate last year which praised Blanchelande’s strong leadership, its key principles and ethos.

Blanchelande College offers education for children aged 2.5 to 18-years-old, in a variety of settings at Les Vauxbelets.

Guernsey’s two other Catholic schools are ‘grant aided’ primary schools – meaning the States fund the teaching staff, while the church owns and maintains the facilities.

Blanchelande is funded by school fees, with an agreed States grant being phased out.
