A murder mystery will be staged in Guernsey later this month giving islanders a “gripping edge-of-your-seat” theatre experience.
‘Dial ‘M’ for Murder‘ – made famous by Alfred Hitchcock’s film version starring Grace Kelly – is coming to the island between 25 and 28 August, thanks to local am-dram group GADOC.
Directors Dani Robin and Ethan Hitchon said: “Most people know ‘Dial M for Murder’ through Hitchcock’s famous 1954 film, but the story began on stage.
“It wasn’t adapted backwards for the theatre: it was engineered from the outset to unfold live, in one room, with an audience watching every tiny detail click into piece – that immediacy is what makes it thrilling.”
The play takes its audience into the home of former tennis pro Tony Wendice and his socialite wife Margot. But from the outset, not all is as it seems.
Mrs Robin said that the play is “like being a fly on the wall” as Inspector Hubbard, played by Danny Barker, tries to piece together the clues he finds.
The audience will watch Hubbard “try and piece together everything,” Mrs Robin said, but “he doesn’t always get it right.
“I think the audience will know more than he does at some points. I’m excited to see how people will react … seeing something unfold before their eyes.”
The performances will take place at Beau Sejour with tickets costing £21, or £17 for under-16s and OAPs.
Mrs Robin is encouraging everyone to come see the play “because it’s just a great piece of theatre.”
But, she particularly encourages those who “like Agatha Christie, Poirot, murder mysteries in general, if they like to be an armchair detective as well”.
“I think it’s perfect for those kind of people,” she added.
