This week sees the Elizabeth College Summer Orchestral Course hit a landmark occasion.

Monday will see the 50th annual summer course begin with students learning new pieces of music under the guidance of their tutors.

This summer’s course is also a continuation of the link between Elizabeth College and the Royal Marines School of Music, said Director Charlie Cottam.

The course, along with its junior section, MusicMakers, for those who have not yet started to learn an instrument, will involve more than 100 tutors and students of all ages, he said.

The students will rehearse all week before performing in concerts next Friday and Saturday at St James.

To mark the 50th anniversary of ECSOC, there will also be an additional concert at St James on Sunday 24 August.

The musicians will all be former students or tutors of ECSOC and will feature David Le Page playing the first movement of Bach’s 1st Violin Concerto in A Minor.

Tickets for all the concerts are available from the St James’ box-office, or from the website: https://stjames.gg.
