Founded in 1975, the Elizabeth College Summer Orchestral Course (ECSOC) turns 50 this year.

Despite it running for half a century, this year will be the 48th iteration of the course, due to a break in its usual offering for three years during the COVID 19 Pandemic.

ECOSOC employs professional musicians, performers and teachers, which it says are selected for their enthusiasm and energy, and their ability to extract the very best from their students.

Celebrations this summer will include a ‘scratch concert’ on 24 August for alumni and tutors, and a composition competition honoring the late Chris Claxton, a stalwart of the course as Tutor, Director and Administrator, with a submission deadline of 20 April.

The summer course itself, which takes place during August, is open to students aged 8 – 20.
