Policy and Resources’ (P&R) tax proposals, including GST at 3% have passed in the States’ Assembly, after a contentious few days in the chamber.
After six days over two sittings, deputies finally got to the vote on the controversial proposals.
Despite impassioned objections from anti-GST deputies and a 9.000 strong public petition, the proposals finally passed.
There are still several stages to go through before the tax reforms are finalised, but islanders are expected to start paying the tax in a few years.
22 deputies voted in favour, with 17 against and one abstention.
