Despite widespread damage to homes and other buildings and nearly 100 trees being felled, walls knocked down, and cars destroyed, no one was seriously harmed when Storm Goretti battered the Bailiwick.
A spokesperson for the States of Guernsey said “there has been some severe damage to businesses and homes” adding “we are thankful that no one has been seriously harmed”.
Both 999 and the non-emergency 222 222 line were ringing off the hook at the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre with all of the emergency services, civil protection volunteers, and other organisations working through the night to respond to calls to help.
Of the calls for help, 10 were specifically for the Ambulance and Rescue Service and two of those call outs were storm related.
One person self-presented at hospital, which Express understands was related to injuries caused by “flying glass” from the properties that were damaged and evacuated in St Jacques/the Green Lanes.
Of the three people injured as a result of Storm Goretti, all have been described as suffering “minor” effects.
