What began as two afternoons a week as a typist has grown into a 30-year career at Medical Specialist Group (MSG) for Personal Assistant Michaela Le Flock.
Since joining MSG in 1996, Ms Le Flock’s career has grown, becoming a familiar friendly face for patients and playing an integral role behind the scenes, supporting clinical teams and patients with consistency, care and professionalism.
Ms Le Flock said she “always had an interest in orthopaedics” so “jumped at the chance” to work in the department.
She added: “I’ve been extremely lucky to work with Mr Joslin for the majority of my MSG working life.
“Working for someone you admire and respect is a big factor in making the job enjoyable.”
Demanding but rewarding
She added: “I never imagined this would become a 30-year career.
“It’s a demanding role, but incredibly rewarding, especially when patients say it’s reassuring to speak to a familiar voice.”
Chris Joslin, Directorate Chair of the Orthopaedic Department, said: “The old metaphor of a swan looking serene on the surface but paddling like mad beneath applies perfectly to Micky.
He said: “She’s paddling hard and keeping everything running smoothly through hard work and dedication.
“Her experience, compassion and efficiency are invaluable, not just to me but to the entire team.”
Mr Joslin said patients regularly told him “how exceptional” Ms Le Flock was.
“Her commitment over the past 30 years has helped shape the standard of care we strive to provide at MSG, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have her.”
