The Guernsey Air Display is holding a new fundraising day to navigate “fundraising challenges” ahead of take-off on 9 September.
Its inaugural flag day will take place on Saturday 29 August, with volunteers shaking buckets and waving card machines to raise money that funds the beloved show.
Natalie Davidson, Event Organiser at Black Vanilla, said: “Local businesses generously support the Display, and the States of Guernsey makes an important contribution, however donations from individuals across the island matter just as much.
“With costs rising and fewer local corporate doors to knock on, we are one of many local charities facing fundraising challenges.
“The Air Display is a key event in the calendar for hundreds of islanders and has been for nearly 70 years. Every donation helps to keep planes in the skies for many years to come.”
The Guernsey Air Display needs to raise between £65,000 and £70,000 each year to bring aircraft, pilots and crews to Guernsey.
Volunteers will be at the M&S in L’Islet and St Martin from 09:00 collecting donations from passers-by.
Waitrose is also supporting the Air Display, making it a featured charity at its Rohais shop for customers to support with their green tokens.
Guernsey Post is holding an island-wide letter drop in the week leading to the Air Display to continue fundraising efforts.
Barry Neal, Flight Display Director, added: “We want to thank the teams at Guernsey Post and the local Waitrose and M&S outlets, alongside the volunteers who have already given up their time to support us.
“We are a charity run by volunteers, so we would greatly appreciate anyone who can give up their time to shake buckets for a couple of hours on Saturday or on the night of the display, for one or two hours from 18:00.”
