Victoria Slade used to run a similar organisation in Wales.

As Chief Executive of the Cynon Taf Community Housing Group in Wales, she was responsible for almost 2,000 properties in an area with significant deprivation.

She has relocated to the island to replace Steve Williams as Chief Executive of the GHA.

He has run the Guernsey Housing Association for almost twenty years and is looking forward to retiring in February. Before then, he will be working with Ms Slade in an advisory role as part of the extensive handover they’ve planned.

“What Steve and the GHA have achieved is phenomenal, with highly efficient, well-built properties and a financially stable organisation,” said Ms Slade.

“The GHA also has strong values, reinforcing my decision to take this important role. I firmly believe that housing provides a bedrock for life opportunities, improving people’s outcomes, such as their education and health. Affordable housing can make a significant difference in many lives.

“My priorities are to further develop the GHA’s relationship with our stakeholders whilst ensuring our properties remain in excellent condition and our tenants receive a great service.”

Ms Slade said that moving to Guernsey to take up her new position has added to the challenge for her.

“I love Guernsey and have been made to feel very welcome. The scenery and history are amazing, and everyone is so friendly. However, I recognise that this wonderful island is facing housing challenges, and we will continue to work tirelessly to provide affordable housing for the community.”

The Chairman of the GHA, Chris Hill welcomed her to the island and will also be involved in her work going forward.

“We are delighted to welcome Victoria and are sure that she will make a major contribution, working with our stakeholders, to meet the significant need for social housing in Guernsey.”
