With nominations confirmed last week, the voting public now have the opportunity to hear what the 82 candidates who have put themselves forward have to say before Guernsey goes to the polls in June.

38 of the 82 candidates will be elected to the States of Deliberation.

As in 2020, there won’t be any large hustings event for all of the candidates to attend, so a number of ‘meet the candidates’ events have been arranged by the States, along with a number of hustings arranged by the candidates themselves, as well as events organised by campaign groups such as the Blue Marine Foundation and SafetyNet.

These events will take place over the coming days and weeks before the ‘super polling stations’ open ahead of the election on Wednesday 18 June.

The events listed below are all open to the public:

Many of the events will take the form of hustings, which is essentially a meeting at which candidates in an election can address potential voters, often by taking questions.

Some of these have been arranged by groups of candidates who have shared the cost of hiring halls to do so, while Forward Guernsey is planning two hustings for its six candidates this Thursday 22 May from 1900-2100 at the St. Martin’s Community Centre and Tuesday 3 June from 1915-2115 at the Styx Centre in St Peter’s.

Other events will be more informal ‘drop in’ style meetings for voters to chat with candidates.

The drop-in events and information evenings are being hosted by specific groups including SafetyNet Guernsey, the Chamber of Commerce and the Blue Marie Foundation.

Some of the drop-ins have been very informal with a ‘drink after work with your deputies’ being touted as a way for prospective deputies to meet voters and discuss their manisfestos.

Punters at the Mariners Inn marked the beginning of their weekend with pints with several current deputies and a few new candidates on Friday before the candidates headed to the Fontaine Inn.

Previous events have also been held at the Britannia and the Cock & Bull pubs.

The hustings over the next few weeks are being held a range of locations including Les Beaucamps School, Vale Douzaine Room and the Performing Arts Centre.
