‘Narcissist’, ‘gaslighting’, and ‘nonchalant’.

No, it’s not a scathing social media post about someone’s ex, but a list of some of Guernsey’s most-Googled words.

Second-placed word ‘Misogyny’ was beaten by ‘narcissist’ to the top spot in the list, which was compiled by Unscramblerer.com.

But the list, released this week, wasn’t just full of negative words, with ‘intimate’, ‘demur’, and ‘doting’ also in the top 10.

The website, which helps people unscramble words for games like Scrabble, used data from the first half of 2026 to find out the top words in various places around the world.

Love, democracy, and integrity

A spokesperson said: “Our research shows that emotions, society and education are the categories that stand out the most.

“People are searching for definitions to better understand personal experiences and public conversations.”

The spokesperson said one of the “most-striking findings” was that the top searches were dominated by “abstract concepts rather than objects”.

“From love and justice to democracy and integrity, people are searching for words that help them understand ideas, values and human behaviour,” they added.
