Guernsey’s Medical Specialist Group is looking to the public to help decide which staff members should receive plaudits for work well done.

The patients’ choice awards run across a number of categories, with opportunities to nominate a consultant, nurse, or admin colleague who has “made a real difference to their care”, according to the MSG.

For the second time the Celebrating Excellence Awards are taking place, following their debut last year, but it’s the first time the public will have a direct say in who gets recognised.

Last year’s awards received almost 40 nominations internally submitted from colleagues, and focussed on five categories, ‘Patient first’, ‘Clinical excellence’, ‘One team’, ‘Going the extra mile’ and ‘Unsung hero’.

The internal nominations, and the five categories also return for 2025.

The MSG said it launched the event last year in order to “highlight individuals and teams whose work embodies the MSG’s values: putting patients first, working as one team, and striving for excellence”.

Once the public window shuts, nominations will be reviewed by the MSG’s chair, chief executive and chief clinical officer, with the winner announced in December.

Chair of the MSG Dr Steve Evans said: “We held our first Celebrating Excellence awards last year and it was inspiring to read the nominations from colleagues, showing how our people go above and beyond to provide exceptional care and support to our patients.”

Dr Evans continued: “We do receive many touching letters of thanks from patients, and so this year we wanted to give them a voice in the awards – a chance to nominate a doctor or nurse or member of our admin team who has truly made a difference.”

Nominations for the Patients’ choice award can be made through MSG’s online form, HERE. Submissions close on Friday, 28 November.
