From splashing through the pool to sprinting across the finish line, Jersey’s young triathletes will be back in action next June – with organisers hoping for a record number of entries to power research into blood cancer.

Now approaching its 13th year, the Jersey Kids Triathlon is open to young athletes aged six to 13 to swim, cycle, and run at Les Quennevais Sports Centre, with hundreds of children having taken part in previous years.

Organisers are hoping a record-breaking 800 children will take part, making it the largest Jersey Kids’ Triathlon to date, with a goal of raising £14,000 for the Jersey branch of Blood Cancer UK.

Each year around 38,000 people are diagnosed with blood cancers in the UK, making it the fifth most common form of cancer.

“Every splash, pedal and stride at the Jersey Kids’ Triathlon helps power life-saving research and vital support for families affected by blood cancer,” representatives from Blood Cancer UK’s Jersey branch said.

“It’s inspiring to see our community come together to make such a meaningful difference.

“With the continued generosity of triathletes, we’re bringing hope closer for everyone living with blood cancer.”

Following success of this year’s new Accessible Entry category, the upcoming event will once again provide additional support for children who need accommodations to participate safely and confidently, with entry in this category open to participants up to age 16.

The event, which is non-competitive, focused entirely on participation, enjoyment and achievement, will be taking place on Saturday 6 June and is sponsored by new title sponsors, Dominion and the One Foundation.

Ben Cooke, Dominion chair and founder of the One Foundation, said: “This event offers some of the youngest in our Jersey community a real opportunity to get involved and have a go at something, without any pressure to win.

“It’s a great chance to build their confidence and explore three sports within an exciting, fun event.”
