The sun shone on Sark as the island celebrated its annual Sheep Racing this Saturday.

The yearly event sees hundreds of people flock to the tiny island to see dozens of sheep tacked a short course, jumping over hay bales with teddy bears tied to their backs.

While race goers have needed to wrap up warm in previous years, because of rain and wind, the only wooly jumpers on display this weekend were the four-legged kind.

This year, visitors basked in the sun as they were treated to good food, flowing drinks, and a series of hotly contested races.

The sheep racing raises money for the Professor Charles Saint Sark Medical Trust, with more than £35,000 raised last year through ticket sales, food and drink, and punters gambling on their favourite woolly jumper.

Miron Richards (77), from Cornwall, was visiting Sark for the first time and said she “loved” the racing.

“It’s so quirky,” she told Express, adding: “There’s something a bit Father Ted about it all.”
