An Aurigny-branded plane landing.

An Aurigny plane flying out of Guernsey was forced to carry out an emergency landing after its windscreen cracked while it was in the air.

Sunday’s flight GR687 to Manchester had to be diverted to Southampton Airport as a “precautionary” measure.

An Aurigny spokesperson said the emergency landing was “in line with standard operating procedures” and all passengers and crew were well.

The company arranged onward coach travel to Manchester to “minimise disruption”.

The spokesperson said: “We thank our passengers for their patience and understanding – their safety, and that of our team, is our priority.”

The damaged plane was G-ORAI, with the return leg flown by another plane, the company said.

The Civil Aviation Authority will be looking at the incident to see what happened.
