A man in a denim shirt and cowboy har looks down moodily, behind him a wooden tool box with hammer, saw etc.

Homeowners in Guernsey have been warned to watch out for cowboy builders operating in the island without a licence, insurance or permission to work here.

Guernsey Police said they are “aware of men on-island offering to do work on people’s houses for cash”.

A spokesperson said scammers “generally target the older generations” and take money in advance for poor quality work, before leaving.

Officers said people should be “very cautious” of cold callers and make their vulnerable family members aware of this type of scam.

“If they arrive at your property, you can contact police on 01481 222 222,” the spokesperson said.
