It’s been confirmed that the Red Arrows will return to Guernsey this September to take part in the island’s Air Display, which is taking place during the evening for the first time.
The RAF events team has confirmed the Reds will be here, accompanied by the Dakota from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), the Typhoon display aircraft, and others, on Wednesday 10 September.
The evening show will be taking place between 18:30 and 20:00, with sunset estimated at 19:33.
The show has been planned for that time to make it more accessible to all age groups, in particular children, students, and families, said the Guernsey Air Display Foundation.
Barry Neal, Flying Display Director, said they were all really pleased the Red Arrows – and the other confirmed aircraft – can be part of the show during its new time.
“Receiving confirmation of the military assets each year is a key part of our planning and allows us to finalise the full line up,” he said. “The Reds and BBMF are stalwarts of the display, and a highlight for many. We always apply for the Typhoon but we’re rarely successful so that will be a fantastic addition. Everyone loves a fast and noisy jet!
“The ever-popular Rich Goodwin and his Pitts Biplane will return with his gravity defying aerobatics and the display will end with a pyrotechnic team, Airborne Pyrotechnics. Some people may remember a pyrotechnic display team back in 2016 which was very successful and we’re looking forward to seeing the response nine years on.”
The Air Display was held during June last year – but moving it back to September has proven to be popular already said Natalie Davidson, Event Organiser from Black Vanilla.
“We have been so pleased by the response to moving the display to the evening and we’re expecting much bigger crowds to be able to enjoy this wonderful event. For the first evening display to have such a great line up of aircraft is very exciting.”
The Air Display relies on the support of the local business community for funding, said Ms Davidson.
The Foundation offers a range of sponsorship packages from £750 to £3,450 are available to suit all budgets.
There is also the opportunity to get involved as an individual by becoming a Friend of the Guernsey Air Display. The cost is £17.50 and you will receive a 2025 pin badge, have your names listed on the website and in the programme and the opportunity to win two tickets to attend the Consortium reception at Castle Cornet to watch the display.
