Three people are in the running to be Guernsey’s next Jurat, the States has said.
One of the three will join the other 15 Jurats – elected lay judges who sit on the Royal Court.
Jurats are elected and, among other duties, help determine facts and sentences in court cases.
The three nominations are:
- Ms Carla Steve Bauer who is proposed by Deputy Marc Lainé and seconded by Deputy Jennifer Strachan.
- Dr Joanne Le Noury who is proposed by Deputy Jayne Ozanne OBE and seconded by Deputy George Oswald
. - Mr Richard Frank Ashplant who is proposed by Deputy Liam McKenna and seconded by Deputy Simon Vermeulen.
The Bailiff has received the nominations for office to replace Jurat Stephen Jones OBE.
The States of Election – which elects Jurats – currently comprises the Bailiff and the Law Officers, the Jurats, the eligible Rectors, the People’s Deputies and 34 Douzaine Representatives.
All have a vote except for the Bailiff who may only vote in the event of a tie.
The States of Election will meet on Wednesday, 30 September, to choose the new Jurat.
