The team planning this year’s election are eager to enlist ‘enthusiastic’ volunteers to help at the polling stations.
Guernsey will be going to the polls on Wednesday 18 June, with two advance polling days on Sunday 15 and Tuesday 17 June to enable as many people as possible who want to vote to be able to do so.
Those volunteering will play a vital role in providing general assistance to voters.
The 2025 General Election team says that the polling station shifts are two hours long and available from 07:30 to 08:30 each day, although volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of four hours, or two shifts. They don’t need to be consecutive or on the same day, and there’s no experience required as a briefing session will be provided by the States.
Positions are available at Beau Sejour, Styx Community Centre, Les Maingy Activity Centre, St Sampson’s Community Centre, St Peter Port Constables’ Office, and the Castel Douzaine Room.
There are some requirements to be aware of, such as volunteers needing to be over the age of 16, and you can’t volunteer if you’re standing in the election.
Jax Robin, who acted as a Polling Station Officer in the island’s first island-wide election, has volunteered again.
“I would encourage people to volunteer to help run this year’s election polling stations, as it’s a good way to show your commitment to our island and its future,” she said. “Training is provided and it’s a great way to get involved in the community.”
