An 87-year-old fundraising stalwart has reprised her role as a Chelsea Pensioner this week and next to raise money for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

Margaret Senior is at Holme Grown in Grouville selling poppies and homemade coat hangers, which are covered with a variety of designs which she painstakingly stitches.

She will be wearing the distinct scarlet tunic of a Chelsea Pensioner, which she also made.

Mrs Senior raised almost £1,400 last year, which included selling 70 of the £5 hangers, and hopes to surpass that this year.

“We’re all here, living in peace, because so many people fought and died for us in the past,” she said. “This is just my way of saying thank you.”

Margaret will be at Holme Grown late-mornings to early afternoons until Armistice Day on Tuesday 11 November.
