A block of flats on Midvale Road was evacuated yesterday evening after a fan caused a “small” fire in a ground-floor apartment.

Emergency services, including two fire engines and police, were seen in the area at around 6pm last night.

Smoke was seen coming from the ground-floor flat, and the building was swiftly evacuated after the fire alarm sounded.

The Fire Service used a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera to help extinguish the fire, which was caused by a fan.

The crews cleared the “heavily smoke-logged” ground-floor flat to make the scene safe, and were gone by 7pm.
