Are you in the mood for love?

As we round-off the first full week of February and enter the second, the creative agenda is ramping up – from Valentines art sessions to a motown disco, pancake party and a sci-fi festival….

Made with Love

Get in the Valentine’s spirit with your loved ones at The Colour Rooms this Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February.

The newly opened St Aubin art gallery are inviting friends, families and couples to join ‘Made With Love’, and paint a heart on a canvas to take home.

1.5 hour sessions are available between 10:30 and 16:00 on both days. All materials are included and £5 of each booking fee will be donated to Jersey Heart Support Group, who assist individuals and families in the island affected by heart conditions.

To book, contact Dawn at the gallery via thecolourrooms.art@gmail.com or on 07829 908090.

Get in the groove

If you’re in the mood to dance the night away this Saturday 8 February, then head to the Earl Grey pub at First Tower for an evening of motown and soul music.

The Jersey Soul Club’s DJs, Bernie and Gary, will take partygoers through all the foot-tapping classics from 20:00 – 23:00.

Entry is free of charge.

Crafty celebrations

Continue the celebrations for the beginning of the Year of the Snake with a crafty gift card session at Jersey Museum this Saturday 8 February, as part of the Lunar New Year festival.

In three family-friendly workshops, participants can explore different modes of craft, such as paper cutting, collage and drawing techniqes to create unique Jersey-inspired gift cards.

Each session focuses on a different Jersey icon, including the Jersey lily, puffin and Jersey cow. The event is supported by the Creative Island Partnership.

The first session begins at 10:00 and last until 16:30.

Bon Appetit!

It may be a month until the official Pancake Day, but Alliance Francaise de Jersey are inviting islanders to their crêpes party this Friday 7 February.

The event marks the celebration of the French tradition la Chandeleur, which is the final part of the nation’s Catholic Christmas calendar, where everyone makes and eats the thin pancakes.

Held at the group’s premises in Library Place from 17:00 until 19:00, crêpes will be cooked and eaten alongside themed-games.

Calling all Sci-fi fans

If you like sci-fi movies then you are in for a treat this weekend as Jersey Film Society are hosting numerous classics as part of their sci-fi film festival.

Held at Jersey Arts Centre, eight films will be screened over Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February. The schedule is:

Saturday 8: Fantastic Voyage, Interstellar, Blade Runner 2049 and The Matrix.

Sunday 9: The Day the Earth Stood Still, Metropolis, The Martian and Solaris.

Islanders can pay to watch the films separately or watch them all using a day pass or weekend pass.
