Before the tide comes in…

Local actor, Joshua Shea, is premiering his “first fully-fledged short film” this week, which is entitled ‘Before The Tide Comes In’. 

The young creative, who is currently studying Arts and Humanities in the UK, previously played young Newt in the ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ movie.

His new film, which is about “two strangers buried up to their necks in the sand await their fate with the tide coming in”, is described as “a musing of impending death and the existential thought process that comes with it.”

The film, which was seed funded by ArtHouse Jersey, will be submitted to upcoming film festivals this year.

Structurally unstructured

ArtHouse Jersey’s latest pop-up exhibition is a collaboration between artists, Bethan Watkins and Victor Guerin.

The exhibition will be taking place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June at the Grève de Lecq Barracks.

Victor is a qualified mechanical engineer from France who creates paintings which offer a “structurally unstructured” view of nature. 

Bethan Watkins studied art A Level here in Jersey, and then went on to study further at Arts University Bournemouth. Her paintings, mainly in oil and acrylic, touch upon the abstract beauty of the land, and its spiritual feminine essence.

#LoveNature

The Trust is staging its sixth environmental festival – #LoveNature – from Saturday 28 May to Wednesday 1 June.

#LoveNature is set in and around St Ouen’s Bay in Jersey’s National Park and aims to showcase the work of the National Trust and to enable ‘behind the scenes’ opportunities at our sites, properties and habitats.

Nature enthusiasts can enjoy a range of events including stargazing, botany and butterflies, forest bathing, pond dipping and rock pool rambles as well as a host of nature walks. 

The Jersey Bat Group will be staging a Bat ‘experience’, there will be scientific bird ringing and puffin watches and children can get up close and personal with raptors. There will be something for everyone who loves Jersey and loves nature.

Celebrating a poetic life

Thursday 2 June at 19:00 will see the posthumous launch of the late author and artist Linda Rose Parkes’ book of poetry ‘diving for pearls’, which she completed just before starting chemotherapy last spring. 

ArtHouse Jersey is hosting the event in collaboration with Linda’s children Samuel Parkes Heinrichs and Esther Rose Parkes, inviting people to celebrate this wonderful work during an evening of poetry, music & film at their new exhibition space in St.Helier.

World famous classical musicians visit

Classical music fans are in for a treat on 31 May, as the Pavel Haas Quartet and Boris Giltburg play at Jersey Arts Centre! 

This world-renowned quartet, famous for their rich timbre and intuitive rapport, will be joined by celebrated pianist Boris Giltburg for a programme of Debussy and Ravel.
