They arrived to find a Eurobin ablaze – described as a “molten heap of plastic on fire” – and flames having spread to the nearby greenery.

According to the service, the fire “was quickly brought under control and extinguished”.
It was at that point, the reason behind the fire became clear.
“Out of the resultant debris, the remains of a disposable BBQ was clear to all,” Jersey Fire and Rescue posted on their Facebook page.

The news comes just one week after the service launched its ‘Keep the flames in the grill’ campaign, which included an urgent warning to islanders to ensure they only dispose of coals when they are completely cold.
Crew Commander Phil Falle said at the time: “We simply ask that they spend a little bit of time checking and maintaining their BBQ and, if using charcoal, think about where they’re cooking and disposal of coals; hot coals, rubbish and plastic bins don’t mix!”
