Pizzeria Romana has been closed since a fire destroyed the historic building, but owners have today announced that – as a temporary measure – the restaurant will be moving to Cheapside.

The fire broke out in the 18th century building in April of this year and investigators are still looking into the cause of the blaze.

Named ‘Pizzeria Romana 2’, the temporary home for the much-loved Italian restaurant will be opening at some point in the next month. The new ‘base’ for the pizzeria will be no. 2 Elizabeth Place in Cheapside.

The fire was so severe that Police cordoned off the surrounding area long after the flames were extinguished.

Posting on their Facebook page, the owners wrote that the move is “a temporary measure which we feel we must take to keep us all happy and sane,” whilst the iconic Charing Cross building is reconstructed.

Promising that they will announce their official re-opening date in due course, they also thank everyone for “being patient” and for remaining “great supporters” of the pizzeria.
