Jersey is set for a festive first this weekend as the island gears up for its debut Christmas Tractor run in aid of a local palliative care charity.
Tractors adorned with Christmas lights will set off on Sunday 14 December for the inaugural Christmas Tractor Run for Jersey Hospice Care.
Organised by John Deans and Peter Barette, the fundraiser will see the decorated tractors travel more than 30 miles and pass through ten parishes.
Before setting off, the vehicles and their drivers will be judged, and spectators are welcome to view the line-up ahead of departure as well as along the route.
Mr Deans said: “We have been thinking about doing this for a few years and have finally got it off the ground. We have limited the entry to 50 tractors for the first, of what we hope will be an annual event. The event has only been made possible thanks to the tremendous support we have had from the Island’s Honorary Police.”
Centenier Andy Bisson of St John – who is leading the Honorary Police for the event – added: “It’s a new event raising money for such a good cause. We have had great support from all the parishes.”
The vehicles, which will be driven by Christmas characters, will set off from Albert Bartlett in Trinity.
Islanders can view the tractors from 3pm, with refreshments served on-site before the vehicles set off at 4.30pm.
