A daring dog had to be rescued by firefighters yesterday after chasing a group of ducks into a body of water.
Breeze the seven-year-old springer spaniel was recovered near Tesson Mill in St Peter’s Valley by the Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters received a call from Breeze’s worried owner at around 12:50 on Wednesday 6 August.
In a social media post, the emergency service said the spaniel had chased a group of ducks into the water and discovered that “unlike the ducks, getting out wasn’t quite so easy”.
A ladder was used to access the deep water and a firefighter swam to Breeze’s rescue, wearing a personal floatation device while tethered by a safety line.
The dog was rescued safely secured and brought back to dry land, “unharmed and still very much full of energy”.
The fire service said: “As for the ducks? We can’t confirm, but we suspect they may have been part of the same group involved in a previous incident – led, of course, by Joyce: the known ringleader in local duck circles.
“Breeze may have simply been caught up in their latest plot.”
Firefighters also reminded islanders to call the emergency services if a pet finds themselves in difficulty.
