The fire has now been put out and Gloucester Street has just been re-opened to traffic.

The fire was first reported by the Fire Service just after 13:00. 15 firefighters tackled the blaze and an aerial ladder was also brought in.

 Firefighters also had to use breathing apparatus to help contain the fire.

 Traffic was first restricted to one lane before Gloucester Street was completely closed down to traffic in what the Police has described as a “serious incident.”

 

Islanders were asked to avoid the area as well as all roads leading to Gloucester Street.

The Fire service announced that the fire, which had spread to other floors and threatened to reach the roof, had been put out just after 15:00. Firefighters are still on the scene and Gloucester Street has just been re-opened.
