Islanders who think they have what it takes to become a firefighter will have the chance to tackle simulated exercises – including a ladder lift and enclosed space scenario – as part of the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service’s latest recruitment campaign.
The service is hoping to attract both on-call and full-time firefighters to the team through four practical drop-in taster sessions this month.
A “talent pool” is also being created to enable interested candidates who have passed the intensive qualifying tests to potentially secure a role within 12 months.
The service is seeking enthusiastic and skilled individuals, from all walks of life and backgrounds, to apply for the roles before the closing date on 31 January 2026.
Recruits will need the ability to deal sensitively with members of the public in difficult and emotional situations as well as the capacity to deliver under pressure, often with great courage and in distressing circumstances.
Four practical drop-in taster sessions hope to encourage prospective candidates to explore these roles.
The sessions will give a flavour of what it’s like to be a firefighter, offering an interactive experience that showcases the physical and mental demands of the role.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in simulated firefighting exercises, including a ladder lift and enclosed space scenario, learn about the various aspects of the job, and engage with experienced firefighters and the recruitment team.
