Giles Corbin (45), a partner at law firm Mourant Ozannes, was airlifted for treatment at Southampton Hospital on Sunday.
He had been a passenger on a jet ski when a speedboat reportedly crashed into his side shortly after 16:30.
The 36-year-old driver of the speedboat was arrested for alleged reckless driving under Regulation 38 Boat and Surf-riding (Control) (Jersey) Regulations 1969. He is currently on police bail whilst the Harbour Authority and Police continue their investigations.
The driver of the jet ski, a 33-year-old man, only sustained a “superficial injury”, while Mr Corbin’s were described as, “…not life threatening, but potentially life changing.”

His mother flew out on Monday morning to accompany him in Southampton. In a Facebook post liked over 500 times, she wrote: “Thanks everyone who is praying for my son, Giles, after the jet ski boat accident, that the surgeons can save his leg… Prayers work miracles and I am believing and trusting God for the best possible outcome.”
The post has since attracted more than 200 comments. One Facebooker said: “Horrific news to hear today Giles, thinking of you & family and praying for the incredible team to work their magic. Get well soon please x”
Another added: “That’s such terrible and shocking news, we wish Giles a speedy recovery.”
Jonathan Speck, Managing Partner at Mr Corbin’s firm, commented: “Our thoughts are with Giles and his family and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
An appeal has now been launched for anyone with any information on the accident to contact States of Jersey Police on 612612 or the Harbour Authority on 447765.
