Islanders are being encouraged to join a neon-themed sponsored walk and a series of events this October to mark ADHD awareness month.

The ‘Together We Glow’ walk, organised by not-for-profit group ADHD Jersey, will take place this Friday.

Starting at La Frégate and finishing at St Aubin, participants are invited to wear bright colours and glow sticks to “shine a light on ADHD”, which founder Rachel Boss described as an often “invisible condition”.

“Out of all the neurodiversity, ADHD is really in the dark, with long waiting times and lack of understanding,” she said.

“The neon theme was chosen to change that – when we glow together, it makes the unseen seen.

“It shows the island that ADHD is real, visible, and worth celebrating.”

The walk forms part of a wider programme of events under the banner ‘The Many Faces of ADHD’, which includes a professional conference, a public Q&A, and a fundraising gala taking place later this month.

A professional conference on Thursday 31 October will bring together teachers, employers, clinicians and social care professionals to hear from international experts on evidence-based approaches to supporting people with ADHD in education, workplaces and healthcare.

A public conference will follow on Saturday 1 November, featuring Q&A panels, workshops, and dedicated sessions for children from 10:00 to 13:00, and for adults from 13:00 to 16:00.

That evening, a masquerade gala at the Pomme d’Or Hotel will feature dinner, live music and awards recognising local champions of ADHD awareness.

ADHD Jersey said the events aim to improve understanding and highlight the challenges facing islanders seeking support.

The organisation estimates that ADHD affects around 5–6% of Jersey’s population – roughly 6,000 people – yet adults joining the waiting list today may face up to five years before being assessed.

Further details and registration information are available on ADHD Jersey’s website.
