Two men were allegedly “punched, kicked, and kneed” while lying on the ground in an early-hours attack on Sunday, police have said in an appeal for witnesses.

The force said the alleged assault was reported to have taken place between 4.30am and 5.10am, at the junction of Midvale Road, Val Plaisant and David Place.

Officers said in a statement: “It is reported that two males were allegedly assaulted by two other males while walking down Midvale Road, near Midvale Road Car Park.

“The alleged assault began with a punch to the face and continued onto Val Plaisant, where the two suspects are said to have punched, kicked and kneed the victims while they were on the ground.”

They said that the two suspects were described as being in their 20s with short brown hair and that both were wearing dark clothes.

One was said to be “of skinny build” and around 6ft tall, while the other was “medium build” and around 5ft 8in.
