Top Stories.

Goodbye January and hello February! We’re well and truly into the swing of 2026, but what stories have you been clicking on this week?

From reckless drivers scraping a line of cars to feckless journalists wrongly claiming Jersey’s better than Guernsey, here are your most read Express stories.

1. Prisoner death

A prisoner was found dead in his cell at Guernsey Prison, this week.

An investigation is now underway into the death of Darren Salituri (39), who was well-known on the island thanks in part to his recognisable tattoos and sidekick dog.

2. Salerie smash-up?

Most people save smashing into parked cars for video games like Grand Theft Auto or The Simpsons: Hit and Run.

But one reckless driver decided to treat St Peter Port like Vice City, smashing into a series of vehicles near Glategny Esplanade.

3. Telegraph talking crapaud

Which is better Guernsey or Jersey? Well according to The Telegraph, it’s Jersey.

But, awarding the clearly-inferior island the top spot wasn’t the only mistake the UK newspaper made in their error-strewn article, which featured a picture of Alderney and claimed you could walk from Little Sark to St Peter Port. What a load of old crapaud.

4. Locals asked to let go of Lego for memorial bench

The community in St Martin’s is celebrating the life of a local schoolboy – with a bench made out of lego.

Islanders are being asked to donate 10,000 pre-loved bricks to commemorate the life of lego-loving Matthew Girard, who sadly died of cancer aged 12.

5. You don’t have to be in it to win it

A Guernsey restaurant has been named one of the best in the United Kingdom… despite not actually being in the UK.

Vraic, at Chouet Bay, was named the UK’s fourth-best restaurant by Squaremeal – beating restaurants like celebrity chef Tom Kerridge’s The Coach, in Marlow.

On a lighter note…

When you’re out walking dogs you’re probably expecting to have to pick up some ‘unexpected packages’.

But for Sam Barry, from dog walking company Walkies, she managed to bag herself a cash prize.
