Guernseyman Olly Cull has secured his first Grade 1 padel tournament title at the NSM and SPF Tournament held at the Guernsey Padel Club.

The event attracted top UK players, including members of the GB Team and LTA-ranked players, all competing for a £4,000 prize fund.

Cull, partnered with GB Team member Jaime Lobo, navigated through tough quarter and semi-final matches, including a surprise win over favourites Rafa Vega and Louie Harris.

They ended up clinching the men’s title with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the final.

Cull expressed his delight at winning his first title at his home club: “It’s been amazing to play with Jaime this week and pick up my first LTA Grade One title – to be able to do that at my home club in Guernsey in front of all my friends made it even more special.”

He continued: “We have a great community here at the Club and the support we received throughout the weekend, especially in the final, was amazing.”

In the Ladies’ tournament, British No 1 Aimee Gibson and No 2 Catherine Rose dominated. They swept through the draw, losing only two games in total.

In the final, they secured a one-sided victory against Sophie Cousins and Angela Wood, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Gibson commented that it’s great to reclaim her old title: “It’s always great to win an LTA Grade 1 event. Catherine and I won this tournament two years ago when I was quite new to padel and its been amazing to come back to Guernsey and win the title again this year. The Club here is great and the tournament has such a friendly feel with lots of us being hosted by local families and it gives us a real chance to experience the island.”

Other winners included Adrian Ezra and Romain Luquet (Men’s Over 50s), Chantelle De La Mare and Sophie Cousins (Ladies’ 40+), Romain Luquet (Men’s 40+), and Ian Robinson and Andy Privett (Legends 60+).
