A trio of footballing sisters from Guernsey have made history, by securing places at a professional football club’s youth academy.

Triplets Emilie, Hollie, and Millie Jeffreys (16) have been accepted onto York City FC’s Player Development Programme.

The girls will move to York in the summer to train with the club – where they’ll get opportunities to play for the Under-18s as well as the Women’s first team.

Millie said she couldn’t wait for the chance to “pursue my footballing dreams”, while her sister Hollie said she was looking forward to “working really hard both on and off the pitch”.

Emilie said: “I believe what York are building is exactly what I want to be part of, and I am excited to get started and can’t wait for the upcoming season.”

All three girls will also study for a BTEC in Sport at nearby York College.

The sisters – who made their debuts for Guernsey in the recent Cherry Godfrey Cup play off – are the first to go through the new pathway, as part of a partnership between York City and Guernsey FA.

York City Ladies play in the third tier of English football – National League North – while the men play in League Two, the fourth tier of the men’s game.

Adam Crowle, from York City Academy, said the club was “able to offer footballing opportunities for players from Guernsey when they leave secondary school and head into further education”.

“Making sure both football and educational potential is met has been at the heart of every conversation with the family.”

Parents Rosie and Mark Jeffreys said they were “incredibly proud” of their daughters.

“Their dedication, commitment and hard work have been outstanding.”
