Guernsey FC secured a 1-0 away victory against AFC Varndeanians last night continuing their perfect start to the season.

The single goal was scored by Charlton Gauvain, who found the net for the first time this season in the 74th minute.

GFC described the match as “scrappy with few clear-cut chances”, but the result marks the Green Lions’ third consecutive win, a feat last achieved in early 2020.

It also brought them their second clean sheet of the season.

Following the win, Guernsey FC are now at the top of the league table with a 100% win record after three matches, with nine points.

They sit ahead of Forest Row on goal difference, who also have a perfect record with nine points.

The lofty league positions might not last long though, with 16 sides still to play their third game of the competition, and six of those sides could also claim perfect starts, including their next opponents in the FA Vase.

This weekend Guernsey FC will now take a break from league action to focus on that FA Vase campaign.

The Green Lions are scheduled to play Bexhill United this Saturday (KO 14.00).

The match could bring back some fond, or bitter-sweet, memories for fans, who might remember the team’s epic run to the semi-final in 2012-13, as the Green Lions fell one step short of the Wembley Final.

The home round of that Semi-Final continues to be the highest recorded attendance for Guernsey FC, with 4,290 in the stands.
