Guernsey Cricket has appointed a new Development Officer with over a decade working in cricket… and football.
Kieran Squire – a former coach for West Bromwich Albion and the English FA – holds both ECB Level 2 Cricket Coach and UEFA A Licence coaching certificates and has spent over a decade working with young people and elite athletes in both sports.
He’s no stranger to the stumps, having designed under-15s programmes for Cannock Cricket Club and Chance to Shine, which aimed to help increase participation, strengthen links between schools and clubs, and create clear pathways for players to progress within the game.
Richard Headington, Chief Operating Officer of Guernsey Cricket, said Mr Squire demonstrated a “genuine passion for participation, player development and community engagement”.
Mr Squire has also worked extensively in coach education, mentoring and developing coaches through continuing professional development programmes and workshops.
Accessible cricket
Mr Squire is passionate about making cricket accessible to everyone and has a particular interest in growing participation among women and girls, supporting volunteers, and creating inclusive environments where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the game.
In his role as Cricket Development Officer, Mr Squire will work closely with schools, clubs, coaches, volunteers and community partners to help deliver Guernsey Cricket’s strategic objectives and continue the growth of the sport across the Bailiwick.
His experience of building successful pathways, working within schools and supporting coaches aligns perfectly with our ambitions for the future of cricket in Guernsey.
Mr Headington said: “Kieran brings fresh ideas, significant expertise and a strong commitment to helping people enjoy and succeed in our sport. We are excited to see the positive impact he will make across our clubs, schools and wider cricket community.”
Speaking about his appointment, Mr Squire said: “I am incredibly excited to be joining Guernsey Cricket and becoming part of such a passionate cricket community. Cricket has the power to bring people together, create lifelong opportunities and make a real difference in people’s lives.
“I look forward to working with schools, clubs, volunteers and players across the island to help grow participation, strengthen development pathways and ensure cricket remains accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone.”
A spokesperson said: “Everyone at Guernsey Cricket extends a warm welcome to Kieran and looks forward to introducing him to the cricket community over the coming weeks.”
