Guernsey FC’s battle for survival continued with a well earnt point on the road at promotion chasing Raynes Park Vale.

Ross Allen was again on target from the penalty spot as the Green Lions took the lead in the 35th minute.

The home side turned the temperature up in the second half, equalising through Trevan Piedade Robinson just after the hour mark.

“They’re a good side,” said Vance.

“And you know, it’s frustrating in some ways, because we’ve matched a team who are in the playoffs or pushing playoffs, and we’re obviously in that lowly position, but it just shows the standards that we can set.

“I thought the players were outstanding. We had this game plan today, and they carried it out perfectly, but added more to it. They worked out how they could press and jump on the players, on their play when they tried to push forward, and we had lots of opportunities to counter press.”

It means two really hard fought points in the last two games, following the 1-1 result against Westfield at the opening of Victoria Park.

“We’re still hanging in there. Obviously I think the players are frustrated because we were in two winning positions, but that’s two tough teams that we’ve played and two tough performances.”

Few people would have expected GFC to get a result last night.

“It’s a bonus point. I would say we’ve got some target games coming up. We’ll keep fighting. We’ll keep going. Everyone’s written us off, but we’ll just keep challenging and do the best we can.”

The 1-1 result leaves Vance’s side six points from safety with five games remaining, starting with another trip away on Saturday, this time at bottom of the table Badshot Lea.
